Tom Felton is to reprise his role as the villainous Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter stage show on Broadway
Tom Felton is returning to his iconic role as Draco Malfoy for the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
This marks the first time an original film actor from the Harry Potter movies has joined the stage version of the beloved series. The acclaimed play, which acts as a sequel to the original saga, made its debut in London’s West End in 2016 and arrived in New York in 2018.
Felton shared his excitement, saying, “It’s a surreal experience stepping into Draco’s shoes again – along with that unmistakable platinum blond hair. I’m so excited to continue his journey and to connect with the amazing Harry Potter fans once more.”
He is set to portray the character at New York’s Lyric Theatre for a 19-week run starting 11 November.
From 2001 to 2011, Felton played opposite Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson in the blockbuster film series. Now aged 37, he will be the first actor from the films to appear in the stage adaptation, which follows the characters 19 years after the final book, as they send their children off to Hogwarts.
Felton reflected, “Being part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the most meaningful parts of my life. Joining this production feels like completing a circle, especially since I’ll be the same age Draco is in the play when I take the stage this fall.”
He also remarked, “I’m excited to collaborate with this brilliant company and become part of the Broadway scene.”
On Instagram, Felton shared a teaser video slipping back into character—donning the familiar blond wig and dark robes, wand in hand, as he ominously asks, “Scared, Potter?” The words “Draco is back” flash on the screen.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the most successful non-musical play in Broadway history, having sold over 10 million tickets globally since its 2016 London premiere. The show is currently being staged in London, New York, Hamburg, and Tokyo.
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender expressed their excitement in a joint statement, saying they were eager to see Felton bring his familiar intensity and humanity to the role once again.
They added, “This is more than just casting — it’s a cultural milestone filled with nostalgia and emotion. Tom’s return will resonate across generations of fans and give fresh energy to this cherished story. We’re thrilled to welcome him back — not just to Hogwarts, but into our Broadway family.”
After his final appearance as Draco, Felton went on to act in the 2011 film Rise of the Planet of the Apes and made his West End debut in the 2022 play 2:22 A Ghost Story. He also participated in the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special alongside Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint.
In 2022, Felton released his memoir Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, chronicling his experiences growing up within the legendary franchise.
Tickets for his upcoming Broadway appearance will go on general sale from 12 June, with early access available from 10 June.
