Australia — More than 400,000 Australian families could lose hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars in Centrelink benefits if they don’t act fast. The government has issued a final reminder for those receiving the Family Tax Benefit (FTB) or Child Care Subsidy (CCS) to confirm their 2023–24 income by June 30 or risk missing out on vital payments.
The Australian government warns that over 400,000 families could miss out on significant Centrelink payments unless they update their income details quickly. Families receiving the Family Tax Benefit (FTB) or Child Care Subsidy (CCS) must verify their 2023–24 income by June 30 to avoid losing important financial support.
According to Services Australia, over 170,000 FTB families and 240,000 CCS families still haven’t confirmed their income—jeopardising access to top-up payments, arrears, and yearly supplements.
Services Australia reports that more than 170,000 families on Family Tax Benefit and around 240,000 receiving Child Care Subsidy have yet to provide confirmation of their income. Failing to do so could put their eligibility for additional payments, arrears, and annual supplements at risk.
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
- Families receiving FTB might be required to repay benefits they already received and lose entitlement to top-up payments.
- CCS recipients could see their childcare subsidy reduced to zero starting July 7, which means they would have to cover full childcare costs themselves.
How to Confirm Your Income:
- Submit your 2023–24 tax return through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), or
- If you don’t need to lodge a tax return, update your information via your Centrelink online account through myGov or the Express Plus Centrelink app (navigate to More > Advise tax non-lodgement).
Many families tend to estimate their income higher than it actually is, meaning they could be eligible for extra payments. However, if you don’t confirm your income, any additional money you might be owed will remain unclaimed.
Don’t miss out on money you’re entitled to—make sure to verify your income before June 30 to secure your payments.
