Six Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Parkway in Downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Gatlinburg:

A major crash involving multiple vehicles occurred in downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on Sunday afternoon, resulting in six people being injured. Of those, three were airlifted to a regional trauma hospital. The accident happened at approximately 4:14 p.m. along the 700 block of Parkway, situated between traffic signals 6 and 8, according to local authorities.

The Gatlinburg Police Department (GPD) reported that five cars were involved in the collision. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, and Lifestar helicopters transported three seriously injured individuals to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The other three injured parties were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance.

Both the GPD and Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) are actively investigating the incident to determine its cause.

Witness Claims Unconfirmed

Though no official cause has been announced, a social media post circulating online suggests that the crash may have been triggered by a driver experiencing a medical emergency, possibly a seizure, which allegedly led to pressing the accelerator instead of the brake. Police have not verified this claim, and investigators are asking the public to await confirmed updates.

Videos shared on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) show several severely damaged vehicles with emergency crews attending to the scene. The crash caused major traffic disruptions for several hours, with road closures and delays impacting one of Gatlinburg’s busiest streets.
