Tom Felton Returning As Draco Malfoy For ‘harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ On Broadway

Felton spent more than a decade as Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” movie franchise. Now he’s set to spend 19 weeks portraying him on Broadway.

Tom Felton is stepping back into the magical world once again — this time on the Broadway stage.

The actor made an exclusive announcement on TODAY, revealing that he will reprise his iconic role as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for a limited 19-week engagement starting in November.

“This feels like a dream,” Felton said to hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin on June 5. “It’s surreal. I left that role behind 16 years ago, and now I get to revisit Draco — but as a father, in an entirely new storyline.”

Tom Felton is reprising his role as Draco Malfoy — this time on Broadway.

At 37, Felton becomes the first actor from the original film cast to step into the Broadway adaptation, which continues the story 19 years after the events of the final book, now focusing on the next generation of Hogwarts students — the children of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco.

Harry Potter shaped my youth,” Felton shared with TODAY.com. “And now, I get to revisit that world — only this time, it’s from a completely new perspective.”

“The play feels like its own entity, separate from the films we all grew up with. We pick up nearly two decades later, and these characters are now parents. For me, stepping back into Draco’s world is both familiar and new. I knew him as a boy — now I’ll explore who he is as a man. That’s the exciting part for me.”

The reprisal of the role marks the first time Felton will portray Draco in nearly 15 years, and is also Felton’s Broadway debut.

Felton acknowledged the emotional journey of returning to the role after nearly a decade and a half.

“I couldn’t help getting teary-eyed,” he admitted. “As soon as they fitted me with the blond wig for the show, I was overwhelmed. It was like stepping into a time capsule I never expected to reopen.”

His Broadway run will begin on November 11, 2025, and conclude on March 22, 2026, at New York City’s Lyric Theatre. Fans can register for early ticket access, with a presale starting June 10 at 11 a.m. ET, and general ticket sales launching June 12 at 11 a.m. ET.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” the highest-grossing non-musical play in Broadway history, has sold more than 10 million tickets worldwide since its premiere in London in 2016.

The show ranks as the fourth longest-running play in Broadway history and is currently delighting audiences in London, New York, Hamburg, and Tokyo.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender expressed their excitement about Felton’s return, stating, “We’re eager to see Tom breathe life into Draco once more, with the same depth and heart he brought to the role on screen.”

“This moment is more than just theatrical,” they added. “It’s a powerful blend of nostalgia and growth. Tom’s return creates a meaningful link between generations of fans and adds a new layer to a timeless story. We’re overjoyed to welcome him not only back to Hogwarts but also into our Broadway family.”

A renewed “Harry Potter” craze is only beginning on Broadway

As excitement builds around Felton’s Broadway debut, the “Wizarding World” continues to expand. HBO recently confirmed it’s developing a new TV series based on J.K. Rowling’s books. Following a global casting search involving tens of thousands of auditions, the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley will be portrayed by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout, respectively.
